Timeline

Attaining perfection through evolution. Our History so far.

1992

Humble Beginnings

Mike Arksey the company founder builds the first primitive profiling machine with £1200 in Wiltshire and produces the very first sheet of Matchboard for Smallbone of Devizes.

1993

On the move

The company moves to an 1800 square foot industrial unit in Sussex, just enough space to accommodate 8 packs of MDF and employs three members of staff .

1997

PanelPlus

PanelPlus the first integrated panelling system consisting of profiled panels together with a rebated skirting and dado rail is developed and successfully launched into the DIY multiples.

1999

Our first true industrial space

We move to our present location in Littlehampton and purchase our first CNC machine. Win our first large contract with Finnforest and become the 3rd company in the UK to achieve FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Accreditation.

2001

'Cut To Size' made easy

Purchase of a state of the art beam saw with turntable, which dramatically increases our production capacity..

2002

Not a speck of dust

State of the art extraction system and furnace installed for £190,000, also providing pumped warm air into the factory, thus reducing our energy requirements. Purchase of our second CNC machine giving us the capacity to produce a further 400 kitcnen doors in a single shift.

2005

First 'in-house design' dedicated multi process machines

The Mini-Pro and Multi-Pro machines are designed and built in house and installed to dramatically speed up the production of flexible MDF and kitchen end-panels. Production is now 5 times quicker - £150,000 well spent!

2007

Ditch the paint brushes

Two new purpose built spray shops are installed, capable of priming/painting up to 500 boards per day. Productivity is on a par with paint line technology. Most importantly 'targeted' spraying into the grooved exposed core areas is achieved resulting in extra paint being delivered. This facilitates easier, more efficient and cost effective denibbing. We call this 'Super Cover' and it is unique to Matchboard.

2012

It's a wrap, foil wrapping.

Orma membrane press cabable of handling 10' x 4' sheets is installed in a completely self enclosed filtered air enviroment to prevent the possibility of dust contamination. An infinite range of colour and texture is now possible.

2013

Edging forward with Homag Edgebander

Installation of the latest Homag Edgebander to provide a third major finishing process for both our in house kitchen and wardrobe departments and the increasing number of sub contract customers requiring panels edged with a variety of options including PVC, Melamime and Veneer.
